A Beautiful Oasis...

The beauty of nature is an awesome wonder with its lush gardens, watery landscapes and breathtaking views. So there is probably no wonder why the TEAM has an affinity for photographing subjects in or around water, and especially in a natural environment. Well, last summer we stumbled upon a hideaway that we knew we would one day like to use as a location for a concept shoot. We made a mental note of the location that day, and here we are one year later, FINALLY getting the opportunity to shoot there. It was an amazing backdrop to compliment our vision for an oasis-themed concept shoot!

As we began pulling together ideas at the start of 2017, I reached out to Shay, because I knew I could count on her adventurous spirit to help breathe life into what initially began as a glamorous session by the pool. I was super excited when she accepted! However, mid-stream (no pun) and in our true creative fashion, we changed it up and decided to move the session to the spot we found and favored last summer. She was totally ok with the last minute adjustment and it turned out to be absolutely perfect!

Here is just a glimpse of that beautiful day. Enjoy!

Blue Lagoon Meets Melanin Magic!

Hi All!

Growing up, one of my favorite movies was The Blue Lagoon. Although, I was quite young when it was released, it was the first love story I was ever exposed to and it is still an endearing part of my childhood. This movie came to mind a few months ago, and I had the crazy idea to do a photographic remake, with a twist...we added a touch of melanin magic! So we invited Reggie (Mr. ADONIS 2016, view link here) and up and coming model, Simone to join us for a day trip on-location to a beautiful waterfall, to shoot a remix of the first love story I ever watched. Now let the adventures begin!

We had a pretty steep slope to travel to get down to the location where we would be shooting, and we KNEW we would have a hard hill to climb to get back out, but while we were there we would enjoy our time and make things happen. One of the many things I love about being a part of this husband and wife visionary team, is the magical moment when my husband is able to capture my vision at the exact angle. Actually, this happens pretty often. I realize sometimes the ideas I create in my mind are a bit of a stretch, but when it all comes together, it is so exciting to watch unfold. We just make a really great team!

Enjoy some of these fabulous pics from our day shoot and be sure to check out the "Behind the Scenes" link below!

Needless to say, the shoot turned out AMAZING! Yes, the elements were quite a challenge to overcome, but the beautiful ambiance and breathtaking natural backdrop made it all well worth it. We were even able to capture some behind the scenes footage of our day, from watching our glam squad leader, Tynita Lee (check out her Instagram page) transform Simone, to witnessing what really happens when the flash stops.

(Catch a peek at some of the fun that happened behind the scenes... Just click HERE!)

Day Shoot (Part I) - The Laundromat

So recently we had the pleasure of doing a couple of concept shoots with models, Michael and Mariah. Talk about a fun shoot! Michael and Mariah were definitely in their element during our day shoot, and I doubt this will be the last you see of either of them. They have some really big goals in mind and we are excited to play just a small role in helping them realize them!

So, the first location was a little unorthodox to say the least, but we figured, we don't live inside a box, so why think inside one? We chose a laundromat for Part I of the Day Shoot. I remember wondering what Michael and Mariah would think of shooting in a laundromat... A laundromat? Really? The idea for this concept was born out of our sincere desire to be different. Every photographer becomes known for their unique style or niche and OUR style happens to be concepts. We both liked the idea enough to try it. It was something new. Here are a few images from Part I of that Day Shoot. What do you think?

Needless to say, Mariah TOTALLY loves the camera and it was evident throughout this shoot! We look forward to watching them pursue their dreams, knowing those dreams are truly possible! Stay tuned for Part II of the Day Shoot...

National Small Business Week 2014

In honor of National Small Business Week 2014, we wanted to publish a Small Business edition of our blog post, to spotlight a few local small businesses who are making a difference in our communities. Small business owners enhance the sustainability of the areas in which we live, by providing more choices (for a competitive advantage), by creating solid industry competition and by helping to fuel our nation's overall economy with creativity and innovation. As small business owners ourselves, we would like to encourage a movement toward supporting more locally-owned small businesses.

The growth of the small business industry has introduced a broader range of product and service diversity, which is a great benefit to loyal and potential consumers. The phrase, "Everything ain't for everybody", is a sentiment that definitely applies when it comes to supply and demand. Not everyone is going to like a particular service or product, but when it comes to owning your own and designing your business model, you really have to follow your heart and your own individual interests, and base your offerings on what you see as a need in your community and not on the result of national statistics. Marc Anthony wrote, "If you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life." If you don't absolutely love what you do, then be about finding out what it is you do LOVE and get started! I'm not saying that being an entrepreneur will be easy, but it is a different kind of feeling when you can build something of your own from the ground up and see it evolve over time.

Small business owners add a personal touch to their service that you won't get just anywhere. They initially connect through business, but end up building lasting relationships with their clients. It's not hard to see why so many people are in favor of the "mom and pop" establishments. There is nothing like putting a name with a face and a smile with it too! So in celebration of National Small Business Week, support the efforts and the financial strengthening of our communities... support small business owners!
